WE ARE PONTEFRACT CIVIC SOCIETY

For over 50 years, Pontefract Civic Society has worked to make Pontefract a better place to live, work and visit, for everyone.

What does Pontefract Civic Society do?

A civic society works to improve the lives of folk living in the area. Acting as a contact point and spokesperson for consultations regarding Transport, Planning and Development as well as promoting the area in terms of Tourism, Heritage and Business. Membership of the Civic Society is open to anyone with an interest in promoting Pontefract and includes Individuals, Community Groups and Local Businesses.

Pontefract Civic Society is a Non-Political Charitable Organisation of volunteers working in the best interests of Pontefract, its citizens and Local Businesses. It seeks to do this through active engagment with Wakefield Metropolitan District Council and other stakeholders with support for their initatives while being an advocate for Pontefract when Infrastructure, Development and Transport Plans are under consultation.

We are also able to offer information on Pontefract’s heritage; bespoke guided walks and talks, plus media spokespeople who can comment on a range of Pontefract matters.

Within the Pontefract Civic Society there is an Executive Board for strategic management and working groups made from interested volunteers from the membership dedicated to each of these topics.
